With abundant rainfall and thriving bush land, Cowaramup, within the Margaret River region, was opened in the 1920’s under the Western Australian Government’s Group Settlement Scheme. The aim was to open the sparsely populated south west of the State for farming to reduce dependence on interstate imports.
The land Aruma Estate farms has been farmed by hard toiling pioneering families for over 100 years.
Aruma Estate was acquired by the current owners in 2005. It has been improved and expanded and now farms approximately 1,000 ha.
The farm carries a beef breeding herd of 700 head and plans to increase this to 1,000 head.
The main breeds run on the farm are pure Angus and Black Simmental or hybrid Simm-Angus. Aruma Estate produces exceptional quality progeny to provide weaners for direct processing, finishing markets and to maintain a self-replacing supply of the highest quality female breeders.
To enhance the genetics of the overall herd, Aruma Estate uses a combination of artificial insemination, using both Australian and USA sourced semen, and paddock mating with bulls sourced annually from the top Western Australian stud farms.
